The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 internationally-agreed targets which were drawn up to give direction to national and international policies during the period 2015-2030. Their ultimate aim is to eradicate poverty and achieve sustainable development.
The 10 principles of Fair Trade overlap with the SDGs in many dimensions. Fair Trade specifically contributes to SDG12 -Responsible Consumption and Production by increasing awareness of sustainable development and lifestyles, and encouraging organisations to adopt sustainable practices.
Fair Trade also plays a relevant role in ensuring other goals such as SDG1 - No poverty, SDG2 - Zero Hunger, SDG5 -Gender Equality, SDG8-Decent work & economic growth, SDG10-Reduced Inequalities, SDG13-Climate Change Action, and SDG17- Partnerships for the goals, are met.
Fair Trade, hence, is a tangible contribution to the fight against poverty, climate change and global economic crisis.
We have put together this infographic to show how the Principles of Fair Trade align with the SDGs. Download it here.
