Fairtrade Fortnight Success: The Balerno Fair Trade Group

Lots of Balerno families - young and old - took a step for Fairtrade™, by attending the annual Fairtrade Fortnight Event, organised by the Balerno Fair Trade Group. There were stalls selling Fairtrade food and fairly traded crafts, including beautiful bags from Nepal, stunning wall hangings from Africa and embroidery from Palestine. There were tastings of Fairtrade wines, coffee and tea. There were popular activities for children and young people - henna painting, crafty feet™, the Smoothie bike etc. And there were refreshments - plenty of home-baking and Fairtrade tea, coffee and juice - the helpers from the Guild were run off their feet. A highlight of the morning was the presentation of certificates and prizes to the pupils from Dean Park Primary School who won the poetry competition. The main prize was a Scottish Fairtrade Forum football - Cool!™ one pupil was overheard to say.™
