Int. Fair Trade Towns Conference 2018
The Forum's Chief Executive, Martin Rhodes, was amongst the 200 Fair Trade supporters and stakeholders who travelled to Madrid on 20 October to attend the 12th International Fairtrade Towns Conference.
The conference was an opportunity for exchange and sharing of knowledge among the public, social and business actors involved in the international Fair Trade Towns campaign. The 200 participants came from over 100 towns around the world.
There were presentations from the Spanish representatives, Fair Trade Towns from around the world, campaigning, gender equality and synergies between Fair Trade and other social movements. Martin also attended some of the many workshops, including those on public procurement and the future development of the Fair Trade movement.
There were several announcements such as the Fair Trade Advocacy Office joining forces with UN Conference on Trade and Development to form a partnership that will focus on “promoting a fair and equitable distribution of benefits among value chain actors” and it was fantastic to hear that Wales will be hosting the 2019 13th International Towns Conference.
