On 25th April, the Scottish Fair Trade Forum held a Fair Trade Nurseries Celebration Event at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, in Glasgow. The event formed part of the Forum’s continuing commitment to recognise the contributions that nurseries make to Fair Trade campaigns and to raise awareness of Fair Trade in Scotland. The event was attended by 100 children and their teachers. The following nurseries were present:
University of Glasgow’s nursery
Croockston Early Years Centre
Pollokshields Early Years Centre
Happy Days Nursery
Hillhead Nursery Kirkintilloch
Hillfoot and Beardsen Nurseries.
The event presented a platform to celebrate the achievements of nurseries in Fair Trade and in general to share best practice among Early Years Education Practitioners. New fun and interactive resources aimed at introducing Fair Trade to nursery children were also launched. This included a Fair Trade video, a learning resource made by Alpha Communications, as well as Fair Trade songs that the Forum commissioned from Anne Butler. All nurseries received a certificate of participation and a book about Fair Trade for nursery children.
The resources launched at the event will be available to download on our website soon.
