Sainsbury's Statement

You may have seen the recent news coverage of the announcement that Sainsbury's has decided to end Fairtrade Mark certification of its Red Label and Gold Label tea in favour of their new Sainsbury's Foundation approach called 'Fairly Traded' tea. Our Director, Martin Rhodes wrote to Mike Coupe, the Chief Executive of Sainsbury's to express concern about the change. The resulting correspondence is documented below:

Parliamentary Motions

Following this announcement from Sainsbury's, Caroline Lucas MP has tabled a motion in the UK Parliament and Colin Smyth MSP has lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament. Both motions urge Sainsbury's and other supermarkets to strengthen their commitment to Fairtrade. 

As a Fair Trade supporter we are asking you to ask your MP to sign the Early Day Motion, lodged by Caroline Lucas MP in Westminster and to ask your MSP's to sign the motion lodged by Colin Smyth MSP in the Scottish Parliament.
