We are excited to announce that Kenny Ewan, CEO of WeFarm will be the Keynote Speaker at the Scottish Fair Trade Campaigner Conference on the 5th September.
WeFarm is an initiative that grew out of the Cafédirect Producers' Foundation, a UK-registered charity that works with smallholder tea, coffee and cocoa farmers and their organisations. Access to relevant, useful information is one of the biggest challenges facing the 500 million small-scale farmers around the world and WeFarm aims to change that with ‘The internet for people with no internet’ – their pioneering social enterprise of a peer to peer knowledge sharing platform for small-scale farmers in rural communities in Africa and Latin America. With WeFarm they can ask questions and receive useful, peer-sourced answers from anywhere in the world, and it's all available through even the most basic mobile phone.
WeFarm won a Google Impact challenge in 2014 which gave them the funds to start up as a standalone organisation and has expanded rapidly since. Kenny will tell us all about how WeFarm works and how it makes a difference for smallholder farmers, as well as how you can get involved here in the UK!
At the Conference we will also have a number of workshops and talks around the themes of smallholder farmers and helping Fairtrade Towns Groups develop - we will open registration soon so keep an eye out!
