This year, the 11th International Fair Trade Towns Conference was held in Saarbrucken, Germany. The conference was organised by the Quattrofair network which is made up of four Fair Trade town campaigns: Luxembourg City in Luxemburg, Metz in France and Saarbrucken and Trier in Germany.
The conference was a great opportunity for Fair Trade campaigners and organisations, from all over the world, to meet, exchange ideas and discuss developments in Fair Trade.
To represent Scotland at the conference were Sandra Burt from the Falkirk Fair Trade Group, Colleen Tait, Scottish Fairtrade Forum Development Manager and Martin Rhodes, Scottish Fairtrade Forum Director.
Martin, alongside Henk Zandvliet from Fair Trade towns Netherlands, delivered a session on Fair Trade Nations and Regions. This was a useful session which brought together representatives from Fair Trade organisations from around the world to discuss guidelines for the Fair Trade Nations and Regions.
It was also announced at the conference that there will be a new European Fair Trade city award in the June/July of next year.
The 12th International Fair Trade Towns Conference will be held in Madrid next year. All are welcome to attend.
