1) What’s your role at the Forum?
I am a Communications Volunteer.
2) What have you been working on recently?
I am supporting the Scottish Fair Trade Retail Network, which seeks to facilitate the cooperation of Fair Trade retailers in Scotland.
3) How did you get interested in Fair Trade?
Last year I was studying abroad in Paris and took a course on Education for Sustainable Development. I learned more about cotton industry and how many children do not have access to education since they are forced to work in the cotton fields. That got me thinking about the importance and role of international trade a bit more, even though I was already familiar with and buying fairly traded products. I think as consumers we have more power than we sometimes realise.
4) What has been your highlight since you joined the Forum?
I only joined the forum a month ago, but I definitely enjoyed going to Edinburgh and meeting Bandi Mbubi from Congo Calling, who was talking about conflict minerals and fair trade. I think especially now, at the beginning of my volunteering I am learning lots of new things all the time, which I really enjoy!
5) What’s your favourite Fair Trade product?
Definitely Fair Trade coffee.
