Foncho with Lourdes Secondary in Glasgow
Achieved Fairtrade School status: 2006
Lourdes Secondary was the first Fairtrade School in Glasgow, receiving the award in 2006.
In 2014, as part of Fairtrade Fortnight, they organised a Staff Fairtrade Tea and Coffee Morning with a raffle of Fairtrade goodies and also raffled a Fairtrade football for pupils.
Fairtrade lessons featured in a number of subjects, involving different year groups, which included a third year Geography class. The pupils took part in role plays, such as the Banana Split Game and a mini play about the Fairtrade banana supply chain.
The pupils then produced some collages using Fairtrade Foncho stickers and over 150 pupils and staff signed a banana poster in a petition to Vince Cable urging action on the supermarkets selling bananas at rock bottom prices.
But the most exciting part was when they met Foncho, the Colombian Fairtrade banana grower, during his trip to Glasgow on Saturday 8th March! Click here to see more photos.
