The 2018 Scottish Fair Trade Campaigner Conference and AGM took place on Saturday 8 September at Gracefield Arts Centre in Dumfries. The theme for the conference was “Partnerships for Fair Trade,” and the event was jointly delivered by the Scottish Fair Trade Forum and the Dumfries and Galloway Regional Fair Trade Steering Group.

Webster Kita and Howard Msukwa, Chair and Vice Chair of the Kaporo Smallholders Farmers Association (KASFA) in Malawi, delivered the keynote speeches. They spoke about a new Scottish Government-funded project whereby they will be working in partnership with the Scottish Fair Trade Forum and the Balmore Trust to become a Guarantee System Member of the World Fair Trade Organization. They also discussed the growing membership of KASFA and described how climate change is having a negative impact on their crops and consequently livelihoods.

The Dumfries and Galloway Regional Fair Trade Group delivered a presentation on their journey as a Fair Trade Zone and facilitated a “World Cafe” activity that gave delegates a chance to share campaign ideas from their Fair Trade communities and groups. You can download the notes here.
